Heidi Hess Haas has memorialized her husband, Dr. Gary Haas, nationally-known pediatric heart surgeon at Tampa Children's Hospital, by establishing the Gary Haas Heart Fund within the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. Dr. Haas was tragically killed in August 2000 at the height of his career in a Bridgestone/Firestone tire-related accident.
This flexible
Donor Advised fund will perpetually carry out Dr. Haas' interest in
pediatric cardiovascular care and will make the Tampa Bay area a stronger
and healthier place for all its citizens.
"So many people are contributing to this fund because of their respect for Gary's work. I am proud that together we can continue to support the organizations and projects that were important to him, and I am grateful for the help I am receiving from the Community Foundation," said Heidi.
Future donations from friends, family, and colleagues in honor of Dr. Haas will build this fund far into the future. Among organizations receiving support are the Ronald McDonald House, Rotary Gift of Life of Florida, Tampa Children's Hospital at St. Joseph's and Samaritan's Purse Children's Heart project.
