Donor Stories | Dr. Gladys Shafran Kashdin Friend and colleague, R. Andrew Maass, then Executive Director of the Tampa Museum of Art, told Gladys Kashdin about the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay and introduced her to George Baxter. That was 1995. Dr. Gladys Shafran Kashdin now has two funds at the Foundation and has been vitally involved in their structure.
"The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay has been a very good fit for me," says Kashdin. "They are very good at assisting me in accomplishing what I want done."
"I want to provide something for the older adults in our community who are often overlooked. And it has to be affordable!" says Kashdin with characteristic aplomb and financial awareness.
She wants to provide for the needs of active adults, be they able or disabled, and her focus is on the Adult/Senior Programs at MOSI and the Life Enrichment Center (LEC), which conducts several programs at MOSI. Hundreds of adults and seniors can avail themselves of everything from dance and the visual arts and the forensic sciences to tai chi classes. More will be offered in the years to come, thanks to Dr. Kashdin's passion and vision and that of Ronna Metcalf, Executive Director of LEC.
Her talent for fusing common elements of nature with art and creating something visually precious is well-known. That same talent is now manifesting in the fusion of her financial acumen with her philanthropy in a very personal, meaningful and valuable contribution to our community.
