Donor Stories | Jim and Doris Siglin

The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay was only four years old when Jim and Doris Siglin heard about it in 1994 from their attorney. Phillip Baumann, a south Tampa trust and probate lawyer, was handling their business affairs and suggested the Foundation as a viable means of providing tax relief while also allowing them the opportunity to share their good fortune with others.

Over the years, the Siglins created two funds with the Foundation, both known as unrestricted donor advised funds. This type of fund has given the Siglins the opportunity to recommend grants in varying amounts to many different agencies each year. Often, when Foundation staff knew of important community needs, Jim and Doris Siglin would gladly participate in meeting those needs.

When it looked as though Meals On Wheels could use some assistance in meeting its $37,500 goal, Chief Financial Officer Lois Mock alerted Mr. Siglin. His third fund at the Foundation is an outgrowth of that conversation. It is a designated fund, in his and his wife's name (to honor her memory), specifically intended to assist Meals On Wheels Tampa forever.

Mr. and Mrs. Siglin can be characterized as modest in lifestyle and demeanor. But their small, consistent acts of kindness have made them giants in the eyes of those on the receiving end.
