What are the different types of funds from which donors may select? Donors may select from the kinds of funds described below or may create their own unique combination.
Unrestricted Fund: You allow the Foundation's Board of Trustees and Grants Committee to direct grants from the fund to the most urgent needs in the Tampa Bay area. Donors can leave a lasting charitable legacy to their community by establishing a named unrestricted fund at the Foundation.
Field of Interest Fund: You may specify a broad area of interest for grants, for example, "Youth and Families," "Arts and Culture," or "Education." The Foundation's Board and Grants Committee will select the most appropriate charitable organization or project to fund.
Donor Advised Fund: You may recommend the specific grants from your fund. While the ultimate decision must remain with the Board, the Foundation listens closely to its donors and honors recommendations that are consistent with the Foundation's charitable objectives.
Designated Fund: Donors may specify one or more organizations as recipients of semiannual distributions. The Foundation's Board reviews these grants regularly to ensure that the donors' objectives are being met.
Scholarships: Donors may create scholarship funds for high school students or adult learners who are seeking to continue their education at colleges or vocational schools. Donors may specify criteria to guide the awarding of the scholarships.
Agency Endowments: Individual donors or nonprofit organizations themselves may establish these funds to provide operating support forever, in good times and bad. Establishment of these funds maximizes investments through the professional financial management the Community Foundation provides.
Charitable Gift Annuities: This type of gift guarantees the donor a lifetime income based on a fixed rate determined at the time of the gift. The donor is entitled to a charitable deduction for the value of the gift and receives payments that are partially tax-free. Upon the death of the donor, any unused portion is applied to the charitable purposes identified by the donor.
Charitable Trusts: There are a variety of trust arrangements that can be made through the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, including the charitable remainder unitrust. These trusts provide significant estate planning advantages while at the same time fulfilling the donor's charitable purposes.
