Reasons to give to the Community Foundation
  1. The Foundation is a trusted entity which protects the corpus or principal entrusted to it.

  2. The Foundation administers endowments as its primary business.

  3. The Foundation allows donors to create one large and meaningful fund that can be directed at several nonprofits.

  4. Investing assets in a pooled fund is a major focus of the Foundation. Our investment returns are comparable to those of financial institutions. We care about mission AND margin.

  5. The accumulated funds represent a size of investing that allows for institutional fees rather than higher investment fees associated with smaller investment amounts.

  6. As a community grant maker, the Foundation tracks the viability of organizations. As times change, the Foundation is in a position to determine and recommend best uses of donor funds. In addition, there may be new organizations that deserve funding in the future, and the Foundation again will be in a position to assess and make recommendations.

  7. Business owners and investors utilize the Foundation as a convenient and efficient way to avoid capital gains taxes. In the case of wanting to make contributions to several nonprofits, selling stock to do so is handled by the Foundation efficiently and effectively on behalf of donors.

  8. Stock transfers are facilitated due to our relationships with 20 brokerage firms.

  9. The Foundation has the ability to provide charitable gift annuities. Most nonprofit organizations do not have this ability. They come to the Foundation bringing donors who want to make contributions using this mutually beneficial financial tool.

  10. The Foundation currently has relationships with over 100 nonprofit organizations in the Tampa Bay area for which we administer endowments. We know nonprofits. We are a nonprofit, too.

  11. The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay is a member of the Council on Foundations headquartered in Washington, DC. We are one of 700 community foundations nationwide, and we have met the rigorous criteria for National Standards for our industry.

  12. The Foundation has recently surpassed $147 million in assets under management, and more than $82 million has been granted out since 1990. The Foundation is a well-regarded leader in our philanthropic community.
