Community Foundations Fact Sheet and Background
 

Community foundations started in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914. Spreading rapidly in the 1920s and 1903s, there are more than 770 today in the United States and 17 foreign countries. Community foundations came late to Florida, starting in the 1960s and growing quickly in the 1970s.

The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay is a late entry, starting in 1990. Currently with approximately $120 million in assets, the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay
is one of the fastest growing new foundations in the country.
