My Mobile Market, low-cost mobile grocery, launches to serve areas without access to supermarkets
Quality food can be evasive for families facing hunger, as most of the time this food comes at a high cost from local bodegas or convenience stores in areas of food deserts. Feeding Tampa Bay and Goodwill-Suncoast are driving My Mobile Market to those areas—a “pop-up style market/mobile grocery store” concept that brings both fresh and shelf-stable foods to communities in need at a fraction of the cost.
The grand opening on September 26 gave residents of New Life Village a first taste of how My Mobile Market will operate. Staples such as peanut butter, cereal, canned meat, pasta and canned vegetables are offered at a low cost in the grocery. Fresh produce, which is donated to Feeding Tampa Bay, is free to those who visit My Mobile Market.
My Mobile Market was made possible through the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay “big idea” grant, awarded to innovative, collaborative projects that addressed basic needs such as hunger and housing.
