In 2000, the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay offered a $2 million challenge
grant to nonprofits in the Tampa Bay area to assist them in building permanent endowments. This
one-to-three challenge was designed to assist nonprofit organizations focus both on developing planned gifts and building endowment funds,
ultimately realizing a steady, growing income stream to assure financial stability and allow for creative growth.
Because of
the benefits this program has
afforded nonprofits, it was
determined that a new campaign would
be initiated. Many generous
donors have again supported the
program, and as of June 30, 2010,
$1.59 million has been contributed
or pledged.
