Hernando County Education Direct Support Organization To support a youth-led Summit for youth by funding transportation, supplies, background checks for volunteers and mentors, and assistance with training and follow up methods. $6,000
People Helping People in Hernando County Blessings in a Backpack program - funding to purchase weekend food for backpacks for students at Spring Hill Elementary and 2 additional schools $5000

Golden Rainbow Ranch A five-day inclusion summer camp for autistic and non-autistic children age 8-12
Hernando Co. Education Direct Support Organization (a.k.a. Hernando County Education Foundation) Industry certification costs for students enrolled in career programs who are unable to pay the fees and to purchase Microsoft certification software for two high schools
Hernando Youth Orchestra   Purchase new music scores and arrangements to expand the music library
People Helping People in Hernando County Provide bus vouchers and the repair or purchase of used bicycles.

ARC Nature Coast To purchase four automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to be positioned in the enrichment center, group homes, and new evacuation shelter
Boys & Girls Club of Hernando For Power Hour, a homework help and tutoring program.  Funding for books, program materials, and computer programs
Brooksville Kiwanis Club Foundation To help send 18 high school students to summer leadership camp
Hernando County Education Foundation For transportation of students to the Teen Leadership program run by Hernando County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee
Jericho Road Ministries For their food bank which collects, inspects, and stores donated food and grocery products and delivers through a network of partner agencies that help feed individuals experiencing a crisis in their life
Junior Achievement of West Central Florida For the Diploma-see Day program
for 8th graders that demonstrates the importance of staying in school

Mid-Florida Community Services (Children's Special Services Program) For Children’s Advocacy Center and Family Visitation Center security project (camera system, intercoms, panic buttons, etc.)
Pasco-Hernando Community College Foundation For partial funding of one scholarship for underprivileged youth

ARC Nature Coast To purchase horse trailer for POSSE (Promoting Opportunities Skills with Special Equestrians) therapeutic riding program
Big Brothers Big Sisters To initiate an arts infused activity program to their mentoring programs
Children’s Advocacy Center of Hernando County (Mid Florida Community Services, Inc.) To purchase computerized web-based case tracking system to meet statistical reporting requirements of National Children’s Alliance and be eligible for continued NCA funding
Foster Parent Association of Hernando County For 80 foster children to participate in extracurricular activity (sports, boy or girl scouts, marching band, dance lessons, etc.)
Hernando County Education Foundation For after-school tutoring in reading, math, and language arts for low performing students
Junior Achievement of West Central Florida For Diploma-see Day program for 8th graders demonstrating importance of staying in school
United Way of Hernando County To start-up the Imagination Library to improve early learning opportunities for children birth to age 5 by sending age appropriate books to their homes

2007 Grants

Leadership Hernando - Summer 2007
  At the August breakfast meeting of
  the  Hernando County Chamber of
  Commerce, the Community
  Foundation awarded its first grant
  ever, a $5,000 Philanthropy in Action
  grant to the Leadership Hernando
  Class of 2007. The grant will be
  used to benefit Jericho Road
  Ministry's establishment of Mary's
  House, a shelter for homeless
  women. Excitement and gratitude
  over this event was raised even higher as Leadership Hernando's grant recipient then received a matching $5,000 amount from Hartland Homes' President and owner, Blaise Ingolia.


Fall 2007
The following grants represent the first-ever round of competitive grant making from the Foundation and are an investment in our community to strengthen its fabric now and for the generations to come.


A New Generation - $5,000
Designated for "No Regrets" youth event involving week-long student assemblies in middle and high schools, parent night, and Saturday night concert. All funds are to go toward program expenses.


The ARC Nature Coast - $2,500
Designated for a renovation project for their snack bar.


H.E.A.R.T. (Hernando Emergency Animal Response Team) - $2,500
Designated for expenses for volunteers (fuel/meals) and rescue supplies (pet carriers, leashes, collars, medical supplies, etc.).


Hernando County Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Inc. - $2,500
Designated for Project Family and Peer Education (Family to Family Class and Peer to Peer Education Class). Materials/miscellaneous costs/teacher stipends.


Junior Achievement of Hernando County - $5,000
Designated for "Diploma-See Initiative" at two schools to inspire 8th graders to stay in school.


Salvare Inc., d/b/a The Dawn Center - $5,000
Designated to purchase necessary food, household, and personal hygiene items including bus passes, gas cards, and food cards for women and children in the shelter.


Senior RX Assistance Charitable Trust (Enrichment Center/Oak Hill Hospital) - $2,500
D
esignated for financial assistance to seniors 60+ to purchase prescriptions.
