Commerce, the Community
Foundation awarded its first grant
ever, a $5,000 Philanthropy in Action
grant to the Leadership Hernando
Class of 2007. The grant will be
used to benefit Jericho Road
Ministry's establishment of Mary's
House, a shelter for homeless
women. Excitement and gratitude
over this event was raised even higher as Leadership Hernando's grant recipient then received a matching $5,000 amount from Hartland Homes' President and owner, Blaise Ingolia.
Fall 2007 The following grants represent the first-ever round of competitive grant making from the Foundation and are an investment in our community to strengthen its fabric now and for the generations to come.
A New Generation - $5,000 Designated for "No Regrets" youth event involving week-long student assemblies in middle and high schools, parent night, and Saturday night concert. All funds are to go toward program expenses.
The ARC Nature Coast - $2,500 Designated for a renovation project for their snack bar.
H.E.A.R.T. (Hernando Emergency Animal Response Team) - $2,500 Designated for expenses for volunteers (fuel/meals) and rescue supplies (pet carriers, leashes, collars, medical supplies, etc.).
Hernando County Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Inc. - $2,500 Designated for Project Family and Peer Education
(Family to Family Class and Peer to Peer Education Class). Materials/miscellaneous costs/teacher stipends.
Junior Achievement of Hernando County - $5,000 Designated for "Diploma-See Initiative" at two schools to inspire 8th graders to stay in school.
Salvare Inc., d/b/a The Dawn Center - $5,000 Designated to purchase necessary food, household, and personal hygiene items including bus passes, gas cards, and food cards for women and children in the shelter.
Senior RX Assistance Charitable Trust (Enrichment Center/Oak Hill Hospital) - $2,500 Designated for financial assistance to seniors 60+ to purchase prescriptions.
