COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $100,000
CHALLENGE GRANT
The Community Foundation of Greater Sun City
has awarded LifePath Hospice a
challenge grant to help
generate support for its
innovative hospice program.
Under terms of the grant,
the Foundation will match
the first $100,000 of
donations made or pledged to
this program by other donors
and are secured by February
2009.
The residential program provides the
ability to serve patients who are
suffering from life-limiting
illness, but who do not require the
more acute level of care provided in
the Hospice House setting.
This also gives patients and
families more options when the
patient has no suitable place to
live, or is unable to receive
adequate care at home.
"This program is unique in the
hospice movement and currently does
not get reimbursed by traditional
payment sources, to the extent that
inpatient care in the Hospice House
does," said Donna Badgero, R.N.,
LifePath Hospice Residence clinical
team leader. "The Residence
provides a wonderful option for many
of our patients, and donations from
the community are needed to help
defray the costs."

Hazel Bryson, a founding donor of the Community Foundation of Greater Sun City Center, established her field-of-interest fund to benefit literacy programs for pre-school and elementary school children. The local Council has continued Hazel's focus on literacy by recently awarding $4,500 to Gibsonton Elementary School for the purchase of a Leap Frog Leap Pad Learning System which would benefit 510 Kindergarten through third grade students.
At the same meeting, the Council approved $5,000 to The Hope Fund for the Children of Bethune Park. This grant will be used to purchase books for the recently established Reading Room located at the park and operated by The Hope Fund.
ó Continuing support for its local Hispanic population, the Sun City Center affiliate again provided funding for the annual Hispanic Scientist of the Year Award sponsored by MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry). The grant provides transportation and cost of attendance to the dinner for south county students as they see their role models recognized.
