Starting a Fund for Your Client
Types of Funds
Ways to Give

It is quite easy to create a charitable fund for your client, giving it the name your client chooses. In most cases it can be done in less than a day. A member of our staff will take you through the following steps.
  1. Determine the charitable purpose or intention for your client's fund.
  2. Select the type of fund that will best meet your client's purpose. Our staff can provide you with the options and discuss the advantages of each, or you can read about them. See Types of Funds.
  3. Complete the fund agreement that describes the rights and responsibilities of each party. Our staff will assist you and/or your client complete a document that makes your client's intentions clear.
  4. Name the fund. This can be done using your client's name, a family member's name, the name of your client's favorite cause, or a name that allows your client to remain anonymous.
  5. Depending upon which type of fund selected, your client may name current fund advisors such as himself/herself and spouse, and successor advisors such as children. This information is to be included in your client's fund agreement.
  6. Your client makes a gift that establishes the fund. See Ways to Give for the types of contributions your client can make.
  7. Your client receives a tax deduction at the time the fund is established and whenever your client makes additional contributions to the fund.

We are here to assist your clients  in structuring and managing their giving. Once your clients have completed these steps, they will enjoy the accomplishment and the knowledge of the difference they are making to individual lives in our community. After a fund is established, your client can

  1. Specify how grant disbursements are to be acknowledged – whether in the name of the fund or anonymously
  2. Add to the fund at any time in any dollar amount
  3. Recommend distributions to charities locally or throughout the United States -
if your client has established a donor advised fund
. Your client may also change the name of the fund advisor or successor advisor with this fund type.

If you have additional questions about establishing a fund, please click here
to contact us for more information. It is our pleasure to work with you and your clients each step of the way.
