Often, the thanks go unspoken. But the hard work, the compounding stress, and the long hours are worth it. They hold our communities together. That is the vision of most nonprofits. Their passions build our culture, provide us opportunities for improvement, and change lives. Any contribution to their success is an investment in our future.
After retiring from his CEO role at the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, George Baxter and his wife, Deborah, felt there was more they could do. They wanted to bring nonprofit CEOs and trustees together to coach them, support them, and give them every resource necessary to better navigate the challenges associated with the world of nonprofit.
In 2008, they founded the Nonprofit CEO Leadership Program at the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. Here, local nonprofit CEOs are invited to attend a comprehensive, year-long professional development program focusing on creative problem-solving and effective management. They make connections, find resources, learn efficiencies, and grow. Most important, they find support and strength. Relying on each other, they are empowered to ignore the status quo and strive for greater excellence in our community.
