Suncoast Credit Union’s $250,000 Gift Expands Access to Higher Education Through Fuse Program

Education opens doors, and thanks to a major investment from Suncoast Credit Union, more students in Tampa Bay will have a pathway to complete their college degree. A $250,000 gift to Community Foundation Tampa Bay, matched by Helios Education Foundation, will directly support the Fuse Scholarship Program at St. Petersburg College and the University of South Florida.

Expanding Opportunities for Students

The innovative Fuse program provides students out of high school, attending community college for the first time, with an affordable, streamlined pathway to a bachelor’s degree.  Students complete their associate degree at St. Petersburg College, and if they meet the academic requirements, they are guaranteed admission into select University of South Florida programs. The funding will support the academic success of first-generation and underserved students, helping to build a stronger regional workforce.

The program also provides students with structured advising, mentorship, and financial assistance to help them stay on track. Nearly 50 St. Petersburg College students pursuing a four-year degree are expected to benefit from this support.

The Power of Partnership

Suncoast Credit Union’s gift aligns with its longstanding commitment to educational equity and financial literacy across Florida. Combined with the generous, matching donation from Helios Education Foundation, the funds will support the Fuse Scholarship Program established by LEAP Tampa Bay partners at the Community Foundation.

“There’s no more powerful path to a thriving community than education. The Fuse program is a collaborative, cost-effective approach that puts students on a clear path to a four-year degree,” said Marlene Spalten, President and CEO, Community Foundation Tampa Bay.

Building a Stronger Community

Through their collaboration, Community Foundation Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg College, Suncoast Credit Union, Helios Education Foundation, University of South Florida, and the LEAP Tampa Bay College Access Network are demonstrating a shared dedication to student success and the region’s long-term prosperity.

Community Foundation Tampa Bay is proud to bring together partners who share a vision of educational access and equity. Through initiatives like Fuse, we are removing barriers to student success that will lead to a more resilient and educated Tampa Bay community.
